#10173 De Mist, Jonkvrouw Augusta Uitenhage. DIARY OF A JOURNEY To The Cape Of Good Hope and The Interior Of Africa In 1802 And 1803. The Author was and 18-year old girl when she sailed from Texel with her father of the Cape of Good Hope. Her travels took her first along the cape west coast as far as Calvinia and then returning south they branched along the east coast travelling past Algoa Bay to the Great Fish River, then to Graaf Reinet, returning across the Karoo. Not a large diary for such a long trip, but she tells a tale that was intended for her family circle. Of note is the description of the voyage out and an early stop for shelter in Plymouth where they visited Lord Barrington. #10135 Sandeman, E.F. EIGHT MONTHS IN AN OX-WAGON. Reminiscences Of Boer Life. Facsimile Reproduction Of The 1880 Edition With New Foreword And Illustrations. E.F. Sandeman, an English traveller-writer, arrived in Cape Town in 1878 to embark upon a leisurely journey through Natal and the Orange Free State to the Transvaal. Starting his expedition from Pietermaritzburg he travelled north through Escourt and Ladysmith, over the Vaal river to Heidelberg and Pretoria. He then turned east to visit the goldfields of Spitzkop and Lydenberg. His entertaining and informative observations on Boer lifestyle and attitudes, on the Bantu societies, on mining and hunting, were published as this rerint title. This facsimile edition, the first in the series, is beautifully completed with decorated boards, map, publisher's advertisements, as per the original edition.
