The train from Port Alfred derailed while crossing the bridge and fell into the gorge below. The Kowie Railway Company was transporting stone (for the construction of Grahamstown cathedral) as well as passengers. Many died, details of the deceased and their families given.

This revised edition includes an extensive afterword by the Author.

The Author researched local records heavily to provide material for this. No 1047 of 1200 copies.

The book is inscribed from the Author 6-5-1970 to D.R. Campbell who was by that time Circle Engineer himself at the opening of the Kougha dam in 1970 which captured the flow of the Khouga and Baviaans river for irrigation of citrus crops.
