Longmans Green editions published London in the years 1910, 1913, 1919, 1926, 1930, & Archives of the Union of South Africa, Cape Town 1939.
Volume 6 was published in 1940 in the same format as the preceding volumes, but it was also published as the Archives Year Book For South African History (1939 Second Year - Part 1) and this is the volume included here. Text is the same but size and binding are different. A nice set at a sensible price.

Perhaps an earlier printing than the Struik editions. Wesleyan missionaries travelling in 1822 eastwards from Campbell along the Vaal in search of any Bechuana tribe to which they could attach themselves found the Salaka clan of the Baralong at Maquassi. The mission was destroyed by the Bataung. The Rev. T.L. Hodgson and the Rev. J. Archbell joined them as they travelled westwards and established themselves at Platberg. The decision was later taken to trek with 12,000 to 15,000 people to the Caledon valley where they had been granted new lands by 3 local chiefs which later were mostly seized by the Emigrant Frontiersmen in 1865.

Subsequently he accompanied an expedition to the Orange River. On both occasions he recorded the cultures of the indigenous people whom he met, and the flora and fauna.
